JUNE FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORT
The Fire Department responded to a total of 36 calls in the month of April: 1 Outside Investigation; 22 Medical Aids; 1 Public Service; 1 Smoke Check; 1 Water Salvage; 4 Traffic Collisions; 2 Vehicle Fire; 1 Residential Structure Fire; 1 Commercial Structure Fire; 1 Hazardous Gas; 1 Refuse Fire; 1 Miscellaneous. The Fire Department has been very busy the past few months. May statistics will include several, recent vegetation fires, that had the potential to threaten homes but were surrounded and extinguished before any structural damage occurred. This year’s prolific wildflower and grass bloom dried to produce flashy fuel conditions. Please be sure to follow the California State Resource Code and maintain 100” defensible space around structures. Fire-wise landscaping does not necessitate clear cutting property to remove all vegetation. The goal of defensible space regulations is to break up the horizontal and vertical continuity of the available combustible fuels. See ww.fire.ca.gov for complete information regarding allowable shrub heights, spacing recommendations and pruning guidelines.

PARKS REPORT
A special thanks to Tony Canales for the numerous hours he volunteered to help rebuild the ball field sprinkler system. The Morongo Valley Youth Sports League announces Opening Night of the Youth Softball League will be June 24. Call MVYSL Secretary, Zola Patino 309-2590 to sign up or volunteer.

Children's Library
The Morongo Valley Children's Library is seeking funds to enhance the science and nature reference section. Librarian Cheryl Jordan hosts Storytelling Hour every Saturday morning at 10:00 with guest storytellers. "Miss Cheryl" and assistant, Kathy Lahti do a peerless job expanding the programming offered to our children. Thursday afternoons feature art and theater instruction led by experienced, volunteer instructors. Who knows what quality program Cheryl will envision to complement the new science and nature books!

MORONGO VALLEY FIREFIGHTERS AUXILIARY
New officers will be installed at a dinner meeting on Wednesday, June 11th at a local restaurant. We would like to extend an invitation to join us to anyone out there in our valley that might be interested in our little organization, which has only one goal in mind, to support our Morongo Valley firefighters. Please call our president, Glen Shepherd at 363-7430 for more info.

If you aren't finished with your spring cleaning and have some good stuff you want to give away we are having a yard sale on Saturday November 22nd (I guess you could wait until your winter cleaning) oh well, if you have something (besides cloths) that you would like to donate to a great cause call Laurie at 363-6681 or Joanne Balzer 363-6485

We also voted to put on a breakfast at the Fall Fiesta in October. Laurie Geeson, FFA secretary

HISTORY - 1st Annual Morongo Valley Community Weed Pullin’ Party
The 1st Annual Morongo Valley Community Weed Pullin’ Party sponsored by the Morongo Valley Chamber took place on Saturday October 25, 1969. Volunteer weeders, drivers & coffee-break servers gathered for briefing, weed demonstration, site drawing & itinerary makeup. If plans worked out, there would be 3 crews—comprising two or more weed-trucks, one people-truck & ten or more people. Thirty-six sites were chosen. Plans were to have a “Wind Witch” burning ceremony of the stacks of weeds at 6:00p.m. in the park. Our Morongo Volunteer Fire Department would be on hand to stage an “interesting fire demonstration”. Well, here it is almost 40 years later and we still have weed problems, actually types that we didn’t have in the 60’s such as the wild turnip. Ragweed & tumbleweeds (Russian Thistle) were the main villains back then. We certainly wouldn’t plan a burning ceremony nowadays.
There was no "after the event write up" so we don’t know how many people showed up but it sure looked like it was well organized by my sister Babs Kobaly and her co-chairman Gwen Rigel. Printed in October 1969 Smoke Signal.

Dr. Chuck's Healing Arts Center
So, Dr. Chuck.... what do you do? I will do my best to anwer this easily and simply. Most people have lives that are filled with unnecessary pain and suffering. For some, this pain is physically based, while for others it is emotionally driven and still for others it is mentally oriented. Regardless of the cause, in order to heal, this pain must be released. In my office, I use gentle Chiropractic techniques such as, Network Chiropractic, SOT, and Diversified. I also include a variety of massage/bodywork methods along with a new quantum energywork called Matrix Energetics. There you have it.... short and simple! The rest is up to you! Call me for a free consultation 760-363-9999.
